Did you know this about quartz?

  • Quartz countertops are fabricated from natural quartz (one of the hardest minerals found in the Earth) and small amounts of glass or metallic flecks are added to create variety.
  • Quartz is a non-porous material, and its texture does not allow bacteria to grow and resists against stains, protecting and making kitchen clean-up easy. Therefore, quartz countertops never need to be sealed.
  • Quartz is not only durable, but is beautiful and its wide variety of color options are sure to impress in any setting.
  • Quartz has many color ranges, from natural colors such as whites, blacks and browns to other colors such as golds or blues? Quartz complements a variety of design styles, from traditional to contemporary, just pick the appropriate color!
  • Day after day in direct sunlight a quartz countertop will fade color and lead to warping or splitting, because quartz is not the right choice for an outdoor installation, not being great with exposure to UV light.
  • Quartz works great in a bathroom, because it’s naturally water-resistant and never needs to be sealed. It’s also mold-resistant and easy to care for–just wipe it down when it gets wet or looks smudged.

  • Quartz is usually (but not always, a little less expensive than granite, depending on the quality of the stone) much less expensive than marble, and it’s more expensive than laminates or solid surface? The final cost depends on several factors (the thickness of the slab, the quantity, the complexity of your design, and the quality of the stone).
  • Because it’s a heavy material, it’s best installed by professionals. If available, use a local company that handles the sale, design, fabrication, and installation all in-house.

How to maintain a quartz countertop

A quartz countertop is resistant, but when you want to enjoy its integrity and beauty for a long period of time you need to:

  • Wipe up spills immediately with mild dishwashing detergent and a soft cloth;
  • A glass or surface cleaner on a non abrasive sponge (sponges designed for nonstick pans are safe and effective) has to be in hand all the time;
  • Remove cooking grease and wastes as soon as possible;
  • Clean permanent markers to avoid permanent stains. When you need to remove surface stains, make sure it is specifically designed for use on quartz and if you don’t have this specified, test it on a small piece of quartz that is not in plain sight.
  • An overall deeper general cleaning should be done at regular intervals (a generous amount of a non abrasive surface cleaner that should sit for 10 minutes and then wiped away with a non-scratch sponge);
  • Even if quartz is heat- and scorch-resistant, the resin used in manufacturing quartz countertops is a plastic and therefore prone to melting in heat above 300 degrees Fahrenheit. To avoid cracks, always use a trivet or hot pad;
  • Even if quartz is a hard surface, it’s not hard enough to withstand the effects of sharp objects like knives. To be safe, slice and dice on a cutting board;
  • Avoid scouring pads, because they can dull the surface;
  • Even if quartz will tolerate casual exposure to milder alkaline solutions (such as diluted bleach), high-pH substances (such as oven cleaners and concentrated bleach) will damage the surface.
  • If the countertops came in contact with any harsh substances rinse the exposed surface immediately and thoroughly with water.
